How to transfer credit card points to Aer Lingus AerClub Avios
Last updated October 30, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows
AerClub is Aer Lingus' program. It uses Avios, the same currency as British Airways, Iberia, Qatar Airways and Finnair. It's a good way to fly Aer Lingus between the US and Ireland. The carrier surcharges are usually lower than British Airways charges on its own flights.
Four of the big US card programs transfer to AerClub at 1:1.
Which bank points transfer to Aer Lingus
| Bank points | Ratio | How long it takes |
|---|---|---|
| American Express Membership Rewards | 1:1 | Amex shows an estimate of up to 48 hours. |
| Chase Ultimate Rewards | 1:1 | Usually instant. Chase allows up to 7 business days. |
| Bilt Points | 1:1 | Usually instant. Bilt says allow up to 48 hours. |
| Wells Fargo Rewards | 1:1 (points cards such as Autograph and Autograph Journey) | Can take a little time to post |
Capital One and Citi. Capital One doesn't transfer to Aer Lingus directly. You can send Capital One miles to British Airways and then move the Avios to AerClub with Combine My Avios. Citi works the same way through Qatar Airways. Rove doesn't transfer to AerClub.
Banks sometimes run transfer bonuses to Aer Lingus. Check the transfer screen on the day you move points.
Before you move any points
- Open a free AerClub account at aerlingus.com if you don't have one, and do it early.
- Make the names match on your bank account, AerClub account and passport. Keep the email and address the same as your bank's too.
- Find the flight first. Search aerlingus.com with Avios, note the price, and check the taxes and carrier charges. Transfers can't be undone.
- Plan around the Amex timing. If you use Amex, allow up to 48 hours before the Avios show up.
How to transfer from each bank
American Express. Log in at americanexpress.com, open Membership Rewards and choose Transfer Points, then Aer Lingus. The first time, link your AerClub number and confirm with your card's security code or a one-time code. Amex only sends points to your own account, or to an authorized user who has had their card for at least 90 days. New Amex card? Each new US Membership Rewards card can start with its own separate points balance. Before you transfer, and before you cancel that card, link it to your main account under Manage Connections on the Amex website or app, so all your points sit in one balance.
Chase. Open Ultimate Rewards on a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred, find the option to transfer points to travel partners (Chase has moved this menu around, so look for the word Transfer), and pick Aer Lingus AerClub. Transfers go in 1,000-point blocks.
Bilt. In the app, go to Rewards, then Travel rewards, and tap Transfer. Choose Aer Lingus AerClub and link your AerClub number. Transfers go in 1,000-point blocks, and Blue status members have a 2,000-point minimum.
Wells Fargo. Transfers work from Wells Fargo cards that earn Rewards points, such as the Autograph and Autograph Journey. Sign in online, go to your rewards and look for Rewards Points Transfer, then choose Aer Lingus.
Check that the Avios arrived
Log in at aerlingus.com and check the Avios balance in your AerClub account. If nothing shows after the usual time, check your bank's transfer history for the number and name you used. Don't send a second transfer.
How to book the award on aerlingus.com
- Sign in to AerClub at aerlingus.com.
- Start a flight search and choose the option to book with Avios.
- Enter your airports, dates, cabin and travelers, and search.
- Pick your flights. Prices differ between peak and off-peak dates, and you may see Avios + cash options.
- Enter each traveler's name, date of birth and gender exactly as on their passport.
- Pay the taxes, fees and carrier charges by card. They're shown in full before you pay.
- Save the booking reference.
Book online when you can. Aer Lingus can charge a fee for phone bookings that could have been made online. Flying home from Dublin, you clear US Customs in Dublin before you board, so allow extra time at the airport.
The fees to know
- Carrier charges: transatlantic awards add Aer Lingus carrier charges on top of government taxes. They're usually lower than on British Airways flights.
- Phone bookings: a fee can apply when the flight could have been booked online.
- Changes and cancellations: €42.50 per person (shown as £35 on UK pages).
Changes and cancellations
- Changes and cancellations must be made more than 24 hours before departure. They cost €42.50 per person, plus any increase in Avios or taxes on a change.
- Cancel more than 24 hours out and you get the Avios back, plus the taxes minus the fee.
- Within 24 hours of departure, nothing can be changed and the Avios aren't refunded. The taxes are.
- You have a 24-hour cooling-off period after booking for a full refund, as long as the flight isn't within the next 24 hours.
Do Aer Lingus Avios expire?
Avios expire if your account has no activity (Avios collected or used) for 36 months. Check the expiry date in your AerClub account, and don't count on a bank transfer to keep it active.
Mistakes I see most
- Expecting Amex points to arrive instantly. Allow up to 48 hours.
- Booking by phone when the flight can be booked online.
- Forgetting the carrier charges when you compare with a cash fare.
- Transferring from Capital One or Citi without planning the extra British Airways or Qatar step.
