How to transfer credit card points to Qatar Airways Privilege Club

Last updated October 20, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows

Privilege Club is Qatar Airways' program, and its currency is Avios, the same name British Airways and Iberia use. You can use it on Qatar Airways and on oneworld partners such as American Airlines, British Airways and Cathay Pacific.

Most people come here for Qatar Airways business class. Four banks transfer directly, and the rules on who you can book for are stricter than at British Airways, so set that up before you need it.

Which bank points transfer to Qatar

Bank pointsRatioHow long it takes
American Express Membership Rewards1:1Often 12 to 24 hours
Capital One Miles1:1Usually instant
Citi ThankYou1:1 on some cards, 1,000 to 700 on others (see below)Often within a day, but it can take a few business days.
Bilt Points1:1Usually instant. Bilt says allow up to 48 hours.

Chase and Wells Fargo don't transfer to Qatar directly. They both transfer to British Airways (guide here), and Avios in a British Airways account can be moved to Privilege Club at 1:1 once you've linked the two accounts. Both accounts have to be in your name, and they need to be at least 30 days old before you can link them.

Citi cards. The Citi Strata Premier, Strata Elite, Prestige and AT&T Access More transfer to Qatar at 1:1. Most other Citi cards get 1,000 to 700, so combine your points in one ThankYou account with a full-ratio card first if you have one.

Banks sometimes run transfer bonuses to Qatar. Check the transfer screen on the day you move points.

Before you move any points

  • Open a free Privilege Club account at qatarairways.com if you don't have one. Your membership number is in your profile.
  • Make the names match on your bank account, Privilege Club account and passport.
  • Set up who you're booking for. Unless you have Gold or Platinum status, you can only use your Avios for people on one of two lists in your account. My List holds up to four other adult Privilege Club members, who have to accept your invitation. Some reports say they also need to have been members for at least 30 days, so have them join early. Family & Friends holds up to nine people who aren't members, and their Avios are pooled with yours. Your own account also has to be at least 30 days old before you can set up either list. People can't be removed for six months, so think before you add them.
  • Find the flight first. Search qatarairways.com while logged in and confirm the seats and the full price before you transfer. Transfers can't be undone.
  • Check British Airways too. Many Qatar Airways awards can also be booked with Avios at ba.com, which doesn't have the My List rules. The price and the cash part can differ, so compare.

How to transfer from each bank

American Express. Log in at americanexpress.com, open Membership Rewards and choose Transfer Points, then Qatar Airways Privilege Club. The first time, link your membership number and confirm with your card's security code or a one-time code. Amex only sends points to your own account, or to an authorized user who has had their card for at least 90 days. New Amex card? Each new US Membership Rewards card can start with its own separate points balance. Before you transfer, and before you cancel that card, link it to your main account under Manage Connections on the Amex website or app, so all your points sit in one balance.

Capital One. Sign in, open your rewards, and choose the option to transfer your miles, then Qatar Airways Privilege Club. Your Capital One name has to match the Privilege Club account. The minimum is 1,000 miles.

Citi. Sign in at thankyou.com, find Points Transfer (it has been under More Ways to Redeem), and choose Qatar Airways Privilege Club. Transfers start at 1,000 points.

Bilt. In the app, go to Rewards, then Travel rewards, and tap Transfer. Choose Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios and link your number. Blue status members have a 2,000-point minimum.

Check that the Avios arrived

Log in at qatarairways.com and check the Avios balance in your Privilege Club account. If nothing shows after the usual time, check your bank's transfer history for the number and name you used. Don't send a second transfer.

How to book the award on qatarairways.com

  1. Log in to Privilege Club at qatarairways.com.
  2. Start a flight search and choose to book with Avios.
  3. Enter your airports, dates, cabin and travelers. Choose travelers from your lists.
  4. Pick your flights. Qatar shows more than one Avios price on many flights, so compare the dates around yours.
  5. Check the cabin and the operating airline on every leg.
  6. Enter each traveler's name, date of birth and gender exactly as on the passport.
  7. Pay the taxes and fees by card. The Avios need to be in your account before you can finish.
  8. Save the booking reference and ticket number.

Changes and cancellations

You can change or cancel a Qatar Airways award up to three hours before departure:

  • More than 24 hours before departure: $25.
  • Between 3 and 24 hours before departure: $100.
  • Within three hours, or a no-show: you lose the Avios. Eligible taxes are refunded.

Gold and Platinum members don't pay the fees for their own bookings. Award tickets have to be used or cancelled within a year of being issued.

Do Qatar Avios expire?

Avios in Privilege Club expire after 36 months with no earning or spending. Earning or spending any Avios resets the clock. Qatar also lets you revalidate expired Avios for a fee, but don't plan on that.

Mistakes I see most

  • Waiting until booking day to add someone to My List, then finding you can't add them in time.
  • Adding people you don't really need to, then being stuck with them for six months.
  • Not comparing ba.com, which can be simpler for booking others.
  • Cancelling in the last three hours, which loses the Avios.
