How to transfer credit card points to TAP Air Portugal Miles&Go

Last updated October 30, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows

Miles&Go is the program of TAP Air Portugal, a Star Alliance airline. Award prices follow a zone chart, and it's a simple way to fly TAP between the US and Lisbon or Porto. TAP adds booking fees and carrier surcharges, so check the cash part before you transfer.

Two of the big US card programs transfer to TAP, both at 1:1.

Which bank points transfer to TAP

Bank pointsRatioHow long it takes
Capital One Miles1:1Usually quick. Check the time shown on screen.
Bilt Points1:1Usually instant. Bilt says allow up to 48 hours.

Amex, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo and Rove don't transfer to TAP.

Banks sometimes run transfer bonuses to TAP. Check the transfer screen on the day you move points.

Before you move any points

  • Open a free Miles&Go account at flytap.com if you don't have one.
  • Make the names match exactly on your bank account, Miles&Go account and passport. TAP says Capital One transfers need an exact name match.
  • Find the flight first. Search flytap.com with Pay with miles, and note the fees and surcharges. Transfers can't be undone.
  • Booking for someone else is allowed from your account, as long as nobody pays you for it.

How to transfer from each bank

Capital One. Sign in, open your rewards, and choose the option to transfer your miles, then TAP Air Portugal. Your Capital One name has to match the Miles&Go account. The minimum is 1,000 miles.

Bilt. In the app, go to Rewards, then Travel rewards, and tap Transfer. Choose TAP Air Portugal Miles&Go and link your Miles&Go number. Transfers go in 1,000-point blocks, and Blue status members have a 2,000-point minimum.

Check that the miles arrived

Log in at flytap.com and check the miles balance in your Miles&Go account. If nothing shows after the usual time, check your bank's transfer history for the number and name you used. Don't send a second transfer.

How to book the award on flytap.com

  1. Sign in to your Miles&Go account at flytap.com.
  2. Enter your origin and destination and choose Pay with miles.
  3. Enter your dates and travelers, and search. For a stop in Lisbon or Porto, use the Multi-City search.
  4. Pick your flights and check the cabin in both directions.
  5. Enter each traveler's name, date of birth and gender exactly as on their passport.
  6. Pay the taxes, booking fee and surcharges by card. TAP takes the miles from your account as soon as you book.
  7. Save the booking code.

Award tickets can't use TAP's free Portugal Stopover program. Use Multi-City instead.

The fees to know

  • Online booking fee: free on domestic Portugal flights, €15 within Europe, €25 on intercontinental TAP flights and €40 on partner airlines.
  • Phone or counter booking fee: higher, from €15 up to €50 on partners.
  • Carrier surcharges: TAP adds these on top of government taxes.

Changes and cancellations

  • You can change the date, time, flight or class for a fee (for most members €50 to €150, more on partners), but not the route.
  • Cancelling costs €75 on TAP flights or €100 on partners, and must be done at least 24 hours before departure. The miles go back with their original expiry date. The booking fee and surcharges aren't refunded.
  • Missing a flight without cancelling costs €130 to €150.

Do TAP miles expire?

Yes. TAP says miles are valid for three years from the activity that earned them, and some promotional miles last only one year. Check the expiry date in your account.

Mistakes I see most

  • Booking by phone when the flight can be booked online.
  • Forgetting the booking fee and surcharges when you compare with a cash fare.
  • Expecting to change the route later. TAP only lets you change dates, flights or class.
