How to transfer points to Air India Maharaja Club
Last updated October 30, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows
Maharaja Club (formerly Flying Returns) is Air India's program, and Air India is in Star Alliance. Its points can book Air India and partners such as United. Some short United flights cost very few points. The rules on who you can book for, cancelling and expiry are strict, so read them before you transfer.
Rove is the only US points program that transfers to Maharaja Club.
Which points transfer to Air India
| Points | Ratio | How long it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Rove Miles | 1:1 | Usually within a day. Rove allows up to 20 days. |
Amex, Chase, Capital One, Citi, Bilt and Wells Fargo don't transfer to Maharaja Club.
Rove sometimes runs transfer bonuses. Check the transfer screen on the day you move miles.
Before you move any points
- Open a free Maharaja Club account at airindia.com if you don't have one. You log in with a one-time code, and your membership number has 9 digits.
- Make the names match on your Rove account, Maharaja Club account and passport.
- Plan to book for yourself. Air India only lets you book awards for other people after you've flown two paid Air India flights on separate bookings.
- Find the flight first. Air India only shows the taxes once enough points are in your account, so note the points price and expect taxes on top. Transfers can't be undone.
- Be sure of your dates. Cancelling costs part of your points, and missing a flight loses them all.
How to transfer Rove Miles
Rove. Sign in at rove.com or in the Rove app, tap your profile icon, then Transfer Miles, and choose Air India Maharaja Club. Your Maharaja Club account has to exist already, and its name and number must match your Rove account. Check the ratio and any minimum on screen before you confirm. Rove says most transfers finish within a day, but some take up to 20 days. Rove transfers can't be cancelled.
Check that the points arrived
Log in at airindia.com and check the points balance in your Maharaja Club profile. If nothing shows after the usual time, check Rove's transfer history for the number and name you used. Don't send a second transfer.
How to book the award on airindia.com
- Sign in to Maharaja Club at airindia.com with the one-time code.
- Start a flight search and choose the option to book with points. Star Alliance partner awards can be booked on the website too.
- Enter your airports, dates, cabin and travelers, and search.
- Pick your flights and check the operating airline and cabin on every leg.
- Enter your name, date of birth and gender exactly as on your passport.
- Pay the taxes and fees by card.
- Save the booking reference.
Air India's points calculator is sometimes wrong. Go by the price shown when you book. Points plus cash isn't offered on Star Alliance partner flights.
The fees to know
- Taxes: shown only once enough points are in your account.
- Date changes: a cash fee.
- Cancellations: a points penalty (see below).
Changes and cancellations
- Date changes cost a cash fee.
- Cancelling costs part of the points, reported as about 25%. Members without top status have to cancel further ahead of the flight.
- Cancellations go through Air India's call centre or booking offices.
- If you miss a flight without cancelling, the points are lost.
- Award tickets are valid for one year.
Do Maharaja Club points expire?
Yes. Points are valid for 24 months, plus the month they were credited. Only paid Air India flights extend them, and a transfer doesn't. Check the expiry date in your profile.
Mistakes I see most
- Planning to book for family before you've flown two paid Air India flights.
- Booking before you're sure of the dates. Cancelling costs points.
- Trusting the points calculator instead of the price at booking.
