How to transfer credit card points to Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Last updated October 20, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows

Flying Club is Virgin Atlantic's program, and its points are called Virgin Points. You can use them on Virgin Atlantic and on partners including Delta, Air France and KLM. For many US travelers that means a simple way to fly to London, or to book Delta flights with points from a bank that doesn't transfer to Delta.

Like Flying Blue, it's reachable from every major US card program, so it's a useful place to pool points.

Before you move any points

  • Open a free Flying Club account at virginatlantic.com if you don't have one. Your Flying Club number is in your account.
  • Capital One holders: link Virgin Red first. Capital One lists Virgin Red as its partner, not Flying Club. Flying Club members are signed up for Virgin Red automatically (look for the activation email), or you can join Virgin Red with your Flying Club number. In Virgin Red, check Link accounts in your account settings and add your Flying Club number if it isn't there. Linked accounts share one Virgin Points balance, so there's nothing to move: the points show up in Flying Club, ready to book.
  • Make the names match on your bank account, Flying Club account and passport.
  • Find the flight first. Search virginatlantic.com for the exact flights and price before you transfer. Transfers can't be undone.

How to transfer from each bank

American Express. Log in at americanexpress.com, open Membership Rewards and choose Transfer Points, then Virgin Atlantic. The first time, link your Flying Club number and confirm with your card's security code or a one-time code. Amex only sends points to your own account, or to an authorized user who has had their card for at least 90 days. New Amex card? Each new US Membership Rewards card can start with its own separate points balance. Before you transfer, and before you cancel that card, link it to your main account under Manage Connections on the Amex website or app, so all your points sit in one balance.

Chase. Open Ultimate Rewards on a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred, find the option to transfer points to travel partners (Chase has moved this menu around, so look for the word Transfer), and pick Virgin Atlantic. Transfers go in 1,000-point blocks.

Capital One. Sign in, open your rewards, choose the option to transfer your miles and pick Virgin Red. Enter your Virgin Red ID when asked (Virgin Red says your Flying Club number also works once the accounts are linked). The name on your Capital One account has to match.

Citi. Sign in at thankyou.com, find Points Transfer (it has been under More Ways to Redeem) and choose Virgin Atlantic. Check the ratio on screen. It depends on which Citi card holds your points.

Bilt. In the app, go to Rewards, then Travel rewards, and tap Transfer. Choose Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. Blue status members have a 2,000-point minimum.

Wells Fargo. Transfers work from Wells Fargo cards that earn Rewards points, such as the Autograph and Autograph Journey. Sign in online, go to your rewards and look for Rewards Points Transfer. Wells Fargo sends points straight to Flying Club, and you can transfer any amount.

Check that the points arrived

Log in at virginatlantic.com and check the Virgin Points balance in your Flying Club account. If nothing shows after the usual time, check your bank's transfer history. Don't send a second transfer.

How to book the award

  1. Log in at virginatlantic.com.
  2. In the flight search, choose to pay with points.
  3. Enter your airports, dates and travelers. Virgin Atlantic, Delta, Air France and KLM flights show up online.
  4. On Virgin's own flights, prices move with demand. Look for the red Saver label, which marks the lowest points prices. The Reward Seat Checker shows a whole month at a glance.
  5. Check the operating airline and the cabin on every leg.
  6. Enter each traveler's name, date of birth and gender exactly as on the passport.
  7. Pay the taxes, fees and carrier charges by card. On some Virgin flights these are high, so check the cash total before you commit.
  8. Save the booking reference and ticket numbers.

Some partner airlines, such as ANA, can't be booked on Virgin's website and need a call to Flying Club. Virgin's partner pages explain how to book each airline. If you're planning around a phone-only partner, confirm the seat with an agent before you transfer anything.

Changes and cancellations

  • Changes are made by calling Virgin. Each change costs $100 per person on flights that start outside the UK (£70 if the trip starts in the UK). You also pay any difference in points, taxes or fees.
  • If you cancel more than 24 hours before the first flight, your Virgin Points come back, less the fee.
  • Inside 24 hours, the points are lost.

Do Virgin Points expire?

No. Virgin Points don't expire while you're a Flying Club member.

Mistakes I see most

  • Capital One transfers made before Virgin Red and Flying Club are linked.
  • Booking a Virgin flight without looking at the cash part. Points prices can look great until you see the carrier charges.
  • Transferring for a partner seat that needs a phone booking before an agent has confirmed it.
  • Assuming a seat you saw elsewhere will show here. If it isn't bookable on Virgin's site or by phone, don't transfer for it.
