How to transfer credit card points to Air France-KLM Flying Blue
Last updated October 20, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows
Flying Blue is the shared program of Air France and KLM. It's one of the easiest programs to reach from the US, because every major card program transfers to it. Most people use it for flights to Europe through Paris or Amsterdam, and it also books partner airlines such as Delta.
It's a good place to start if your points are spread across more than one bank, since they can all end up in the same account.
Which bank points transfer to Flying Blue
| Bank points | Ratio | How long it takes |
|---|---|---|
| American Express Membership Rewards | 1:1 | Usually instant |
| Chase Ultimate Rewards | 1:1 | Usually instant. Chase says allow up to 7 business days. |
| Capital One Miles | 1:1 | Usually instant |
| Citi ThankYou | 1:1 on Strata Premier, Strata Elite, Prestige and AT&T Access More. 1,000 to 700 on most other cards, such as Strata, Double Cash and Custom Cash. | Often within a day, but it can take a few business days. |
| Bilt Points | 1:1 | Usually instant. Bilt says allow up to 48 hours. |
| Wells Fargo Rewards | 1:1 (points cards such as Autograph and Autograph Journey) | Can take a little time to post |
Banks often run limited-time bonuses on transfers to Flying Blue. They're worth using when they line up with a trip, but check the transfer screen on the day. An old blog post won't tell you what's live now.
Before you move any points
- Open a free Flying Blue account at flyingblue.com if you don't have one. Your Flying Blue number is on your profile when you log in at airfrance.us or klm.us.
- Make the names match. Your bank account, Flying Blue account and passport should show the same first and last name. Middle names cause trouble here more often than you'd think.
- Find the flight first. Search for the exact flights and price before you transfer. Prices change, and transfers can't be undone.
- Know that you can book for other people. Flying Blue lets members book reward tickets for anyone. One person can hold the miles and book for the whole family.
- Have your phone handy. Flying Blue often sends a one-time code when you log in.
How to transfer from each bank
The steps are similar everywhere: find the transfer option, choose Air France-KLM Flying Blue, enter your Flying Blue number the first time, then enter the amount. A few details differ.
American Express. Log in at americanexpress.com, open your Membership Rewards page and choose Transfer Points. The first time, you link your Flying Blue number and confirm with your card's security code or a one-time code. Amex only sends points to your own account, or to an authorized user who has had their card for at least 90 days. New Amex card? Each new US Membership Rewards card can start with its own separate points balance. Before you transfer, and before you cancel that card, link it to your main account under Manage Connections on the Amex website or app, so all your points sit in one balance.
Chase. Open Ultimate Rewards on a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred, then look for the option to transfer points to travel partners. Chase has moved this menu around, so look for the word Transfer. Transfers go in 1,000-point blocks, to you or one household member who is an authorized user.
Capital One. Sign in, open your rewards, and choose the option to transfer. The name on your Capital One account has to match your Flying Blue account. The minimum is 1,000 miles.
Citi. Sign in at thankyou.com and look for Points Transfer (it has been under More Ways to Redeem). Check the ratio on screen before you confirm. It depends on which Citi card your points sit on.
Bilt. In the app, go to Rewards, then Travel rewards, and tap Transfer. Points move in 1,000-point blocks, with a 2,000-point minimum for Blue status members.
Wells Fargo. Transfers work from Wells Fargo cards that earn Rewards points, such as the Autograph and Autograph Journey. Sign in online, go to your rewards and look for Rewards Points Transfer. It's online only, and Wells Fargo lets you transfer in any amount.
Check that the miles arrived
Log in at airfrance.us or klm.us and check your balance. If it isn't there, log out and back in. If it still hasn't shown up after the usual time, check your bank's transfer history before doing anything else. Don't send a second transfer.
How to book the award
- Go to airfrance.us (or klm.us).
- On airfrance.us, choose the Book with Miles tab and log in. On klm.us, log in first, then go to booking.
- Enter your airports, one-way or round trip, cabin and travelers. If you leave the date open, the site shows a calendar of prices, which is the easiest way to spot cheap days.
- Pick your flights. On Air France and KLM flights you'll see three reward fares: Light, Standard and Flex. They differ in price and in what happens if you need to change (more on that below).
- Check the cabin on every leg and the total miles before you continue.
- Enter each traveler's name, date of birth and gender exactly as on the passport.
- Pay the taxes and surcharges by card. These are not covered by miles, and on long-haul flights from Europe they can be a real amount, so look at the cash total before you commit.
- Save the confirmation and ticket numbers.
The site won't let you finish the booking until the miles are in your account. That's normal. Transfer, wait for the miles to land, then book.
Promo Rewards
Flying Blue releases Promo Rewards on the first day of each month. These are discounted reward tickets, up to 25% off, on selected routes and dates. If your dates are flexible, it's worth checking the current list before you transfer. Space is limited, and a promo price doesn't mean your date has seats.
Light, Standard and Flex
For Air France and KLM flights booked from September 8, 2026, reward tickets come in three fares:
- Light is the cheapest. It doesn't include changes or refunds, and Business Light also leaves out lounge access and free advance seat selection.
- Standard can be changed or refunded for a fee of €70 per ticket. Flying Blue charges it in euros.
- Flex costs more miles but includes free changes and refunds.
If there's any chance your plans move, Light can be a false saving. Reward tickets on partner airlines such as Delta follow their own rules, so check the conditions shown before you pay. They generally cost about €70 to change or cancel.
Do Flying Blue miles expire?
Flying Blue miles stay valid for 24 months. Any activity that earns miles, including a transfer from your bank, extends your whole balance for another 24 months. Check the expiry date shown in your account if you're holding miles for a while.
Mistakes I see most
- Booking Light when plans might change. The miles you save can cost you the whole ticket.
- Transferring before checking the price. Flying Blue pricing moves. Look again right before you transfer.
- Ignoring the cash part. Two tickets with the same miles can have very different taxes and surcharges depending on the route.
- A name that doesn't match the passport. Fix the account name before you book, not after.
