How to transfer credit card points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Last updated October 20, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows
KrisFlyer is Singapore Airlines' program. Most people use it for Singapore Airlines' own flights, in business or economy, and it can also book Star Alliance partners.
Four of the big US banks transfer to it, including Chase, which is unusual for an Asian airline. The catch is that transfers aren't instant, and you can only book for yourself and up to five people you've set up in advance.
Which bank points transfer to KrisFlyer
| Bank points | Ratio | How long it takes |
|---|---|---|
| American Express Membership Rewards | 1:1 | Often 12 to 24 hours |
| Chase Ultimate Rewards | 1:1 | Most by the next business day. Chase says up to 7 business days. |
| Capital One Miles | 1:1 | Often 12 to 24 hours |
| Citi ThankYou | 1:1 on some cards, 1,000 to 700 on others (see below) | Often within a day, but it can take a few business days. |
Bilt and Wells Fargo don't transfer to KrisFlyer.
Citi cards. The Citi Strata Premier, Strata Elite, Prestige and AT&T Access More transfer to KrisFlyer at 1:1. Most other Citi cards get 1,000 to 700, so combine your points in one ThankYou account with a full-ratio card first if you have one.
Banks sometimes run transfer bonuses to KrisFlyer. Check the transfer screen on the day you move points.
Before you move any points
- Open a free KrisFlyer account at singaporeair.com if you don't have one. Your KrisFlyer number is in your profile.
- Make the names match on your bank account, KrisFlyer account and passport. Singapore Airlines says card points can only go to the main cardholder's own KrisFlyer account.
- Set up your nominees early. To book for anyone else, add them as a redemption nominee in your KrisFlyer account. You can have up to five, and they can be anyone. A new nominee can't be booked on a flight leaving within 72 hours of being added, and you can't swap nominees out for six months.
- Find the flight first. Search singaporeair.com while logged in and price the whole trip, every flight and every traveler, before you transfer. Transfers can't be undone.
- Allow time. Because transfers can take a day or more, the seat you found may be gone by the time the miles land. That's a risk you take with any program that isn't instant.
How to transfer from each bank
American Express. Log in at americanexpress.com, open Membership Rewards and choose Transfer Points, then Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. The first time, link your KrisFlyer number and confirm with your card's security code or a one-time code. Amex only sends points to your own account, or to an authorized user who has had their card for at least 90 days. New Amex card? Each new US Membership Rewards card can start with its own separate points balance. Before you transfer, and before you cancel that card, link it to your main account under Manage Connections on the Amex website or app, so all your points sit in one balance.
Chase. Open Ultimate Rewards on a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred, find the option to transfer points to travel partners (Chase has moved this menu around, so look for the word Transfer), and pick Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. Transfers go in 1,000-point blocks.
Capital One. Sign in, open your rewards, and choose the option to transfer your miles, then Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. Your Capital One name has to match the KrisFlyer account. The minimum is 1,000 miles.
Citi. Sign in at thankyou.com, find Points Transfer (it has been under More Ways to Redeem), and choose Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer. Transfers start at 1,000 points.
Check that the miles arrived
Log in at singaporeair.com and check the miles balance in your KrisFlyer account. If nothing shows after a couple of days, check your bank's transfer history for the number and name you used. Don't send a second transfer.
How to book the award on singaporeair.com
- Log in at singaporeair.com.
- In the booking box, choose Redeem flights.
- Enter your airports, dates, cabin and travelers. Pick your nominees from the list if they're flying.
- Pick your flights. Singapore Airlines shows more than one award level, such as Saver and Advantage. Saver costs fewer miles and has stricter change rules.
- Check the cabin on every leg. A business class trip can include an economy flight.
- Enter each traveler's name, date of birth and gender exactly as on the passport.
- Pay the taxes and fees by card.
- Save the booking reference and ticket number.
On some Singapore Airlines flights you may be offered a waitlist if Saver seats are gone. A waitlist isn't a seat, so don't transfer more points just to sit on one. Waitlists aren't offered on Star Alliance partner awards.
Changes and cancellations
Singapore Airlines lists its award fees on its service fees page. For a Saver award on Singapore Airlines:
- Date change: $25. Date changes on Advantage awards are free.
- Route, cabin or award type change: $25.
- Cancel and get the miles back: $75 on Saver, $50 on Advantage.
- No-show: if you miss the flight without cancelling, there's an extra fee on top: $100 in economy and $300 in business.
Partner awards cost more to change, and once you've flown part of a partner award it can't be changed. You can change and cancel most bookings online. Refunds of taxes can take up to six weeks, and any miles that expired in the meantime don't come back.
Do KrisFlyer miles expire?
Yes. KrisFlyer miles last three years, to the end of the matching month, and activity doesn't extend them. Your account shows when each batch runs out. That's one more reason to transfer only when you're ready to book.
Mistakes I see most
- Not adding a nominee in time, then finding you can't book them on the flight you want.
- Expecting the transfer to be instant. Plan for a day or more.
- Booking Saver and then needing to change, when an Advantage award would have been free to move.
- Skipping the cancellation and getting hit with a no-show fee.
