How to transfer credit card points to ANA Mileage Club

Last updated October 20, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows

ANA Mileage Club is the program of All Nippon Airways, Japan's largest airline. You can use it on ANA's own flights and on Star Alliance partners such as United, Lufthansa and Air Canada.

I'll be honest up front: this is a narrow one. Only American Express transfers to ANA, the transfer isn't instant, and you can only book for yourself and close family. If you don't have Amex points, or you're booking for friends, look at United (guide here) or Aeroplan (guide here) instead. Both can book ANA flights.

Which bank points transfer to ANA

Bank pointsRatioHow long it takes
American Express Membership Rewards1:1Not instant. ANA says to allow 2 to 4 business days.

Chase Ultimate Rewards, Capital One, Citi ThankYou, Bilt and Wells Fargo don't transfer to ANA.

Amex sometimes runs transfer bonuses. Check the transfer screen on the day you move points.

Before you move any points

  • Open a free ANA Mileage Club account at ana.co.jp if you don't have one.
  • Make the names match on your Amex account, ANA account and passport.
  • Register your award users first. ANA awards are only for you, your spouse or partner, and relatives within two degrees. You register them in your account before you book, up to 10 people, and ANA may ask for proof of the relationship. Changing or removing someone later costs 5,000 miles.
  • Find the flight first, and plan for the wait. Because the transfer takes days, the seat you found may be gone by the time the miles land. Don't move points unless you're comfortable with that.

How to transfer Amex points to ANA

  1. Log in at americanexpress.com, open Membership Rewards and choose Transfer Points. Transfers go in 1,000-point blocks, and ANA allows one a day.
  2. Choose ANA Mileage Club.
  3. The first time, link your ANA number and confirm with your card's security code or a one-time code. Amex only sends points to your own account, or to an authorized user who has had their card for at least 90 days. New Amex card? Each new US Membership Rewards card can start with its own separate points balance. Before you transfer, and before you cancel that card, link it to your main account under Manage Connections on the Amex website or app, so all your points sit in one balance.
  4. Enter the amount, check the summary, and submit.

Check that the miles arrived

Log in at ana.co.jp and check your mileage balance. If nothing has shown up after four business days, check your Amex transfer history for the ANA number and name you used, and contact American Express, which handles missing transfers. Don't send a second transfer.

How to book the award on ana.co.jp

  1. Log in at ana.co.jp.
  2. Choose Award Reservation in your account. ANA flights and partner flights use different booking menus.
  3. Enter your airports, dates, cabin and award users.
  4. Pick your flights. One-way awards are available now as well as round trips.
  5. Check the cabin and the operating airline on every leg.
  6. Enter each traveler's details exactly as on the passport.
  7. Pay the taxes, fees and any fuel surcharges by card. ANA passes on fuel surcharges, so the cash part can be higher than you'd expect.
  8. Save the booking reference and ticket number.

Partner awards can be booked from 355 days before departure up to 96 hours before the first flight.

Changes and cancellations

  • Changes. You can change the date or flight, but not the route, airline or cabin. You have to make the change before your original flight leaves. On ANA's own flights, the new flight has to be at least 24 hours away. On partner awards, it has to be at least 96 hours away.
  • Cancellations. You can only get miles back if no part of the ticket has been used, and you have to cancel before your first flight leaves. The fee is 3,000 miles per person, or 3,000 yen (or the local equivalent) paid by card.
  • Expiry still counts. Refunded miles keep their original expiry date. Miles that have already expired aren't returned.

Do ANA miles expire?

Yes. ANA miles are valid until the end of the 36th month after the month you earned them, and new activity doesn't extend them. Don't transfer for a trip you haven't found yet.

Mistakes I see most

  • Transferring for a friend. ANA won't let you book for them.
  • Expecting the miles the same day. Allow days, not minutes.
  • Forgetting the fuel surcharges when comparing ANA with United or Aeroplan.
