How to transfer credit card points to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
Last updated October 20, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows
Asia Miles is the currency of Cathay, the membership program of Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong. You can use it on Cathay Pacific and on oneworld partners such as American Airlines, British Airways, JAL and Qatar Airways.
Five of the six big US banks transfer to it, which makes it one of the easiest programs to reach. Chase is the only one that doesn't.
Which bank points transfer to Asia Miles
| Bank points | Ratio | How long it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Citi ThankYou | 1:1 on some cards, 1,000 to 700 on others (see below) | Usually quick |
| Bilt Points | 1:1 | Usually instant. Bilt says allow up to 48 hours. |
| Wells Fargo Rewards | 1:1 (points cards such as Autograph and Autograph Journey) | Can take a little time to post |
| Capital One Miles | 1:1 | Often a day or two |
| American Express Membership Rewards | 1,000 to 800 | Often a few hours |
Chase doesn't transfer to Asia Miles.
Citi cards. The Citi Strata Premier, Strata Elite, Prestige and AT&T Access More transfer to Asia Miles at 1:1. Most other Citi cards get 1,000 to 700, so combine your points in one ThankYou account with a full-ratio card first if you have one.
Amex. Since March 1, 2026, Amex gives 800 Asia Miles per 1,000 points (it used to be 1:1). If you have points with one of the other banks, use those first.
Banks sometimes run transfer bonuses to Asia Miles. Check the transfer screen on the day you move points.
Before you move any points
- Open a free Cathay account at cathaypacific.com if you don't have one. Your membership number is in your profile.
- Make the names match on your bank account, Cathay account and passport.
- Set up your Redemption Group. To book for anyone else, add them to your Redemption Group first. You can have up to five people. Your first five registrations are free. After that, adding or swapping someone costs $50 online, or $75 another way.
- Find the flight first. Search cathaypacific.com while logged in and price the whole trip before you transfer. Transfers can't be undone.
How to transfer from each bank
Citi. Sign in at thankyou.com, find Points Transfer (it has been under More Ways to Redeem), and choose Cathay Pacific. Transfers start at 1,000 points.
Bilt. In the app, go to Rewards, then Travel rewards, and tap Transfer. Choose Cathay Pacific and link your number. Blue status members have a 2,000-point minimum.
Wells Fargo. Transfers work from Wells Fargo cards that earn Rewards points, such as the Autograph and Autograph Journey. Sign in online, go to your rewards and look for Rewards Points Transfer. You can transfer any amount.
Capital One. Sign in, open your rewards, and choose the option to transfer your miles, then Cathay Pacific. Your Capital One name has to match the Cathay account. The minimum is 1,000 miles.
American Express. Log in at americanexpress.com, open Membership Rewards and choose Transfer Points, then Cathay Pacific. The first time, link your membership number and confirm with your card's security code or a one-time code. Amex only sends points to your own account, or to an authorized user who has had their card for at least 90 days. New Amex card? Each new US Membership Rewards card can start with its own separate points balance. Before you transfer, and before you cancel that card, link it to your main account under Manage Connections on the Amex website or app, so all your points sit in one balance.
Check that the miles arrived
Log in at cathaypacific.com and check the Asia Miles balance in your account. If nothing shows after the usual time, check your bank's transfer history for the number and name you used. Don't send a second transfer.
How to book the award on cathaypacific.com
- Sign in at cathaypacific.com.
- Start a flight search and choose the option to redeem your Asia Miles.
- Enter your airports, dates, cabin and travelers. Pick people from your Redemption Group if they're flying.
- Pick your flights. Results can include Cathay Pacific and partner airlines, so check the operating airline on every leg.
- Check the cabin on every leg. A business class trip can include an economy flight.
- Enter each traveler's name, date of birth and gender exactly as on the passport.
- Pay the taxes, fees and any surcharges by card.
- Save the booking reference and ticket number.
Some partner awards, and more complicated trips, can't be booked online. Booking those through Cathay's customer care can add a service fee.
Changes and cancellations
- Date changes. On most Cathay Pacific awards you can change the date online for $50 or 7,500 Asia Miles per ticket. The airline, origin and destination have to stay the same, and you have to make the change before the original flight date.
- Changing another way. Changes made through customer care rather than online add $40 or 6,000 Asia Miles per booking.
- Cancellations. A completely unused award can be cancelled for $120 or 17,000 Asia Miles, as long as the ticket hasn't expired. The miles go back to your account, and taxes and surcharges are refunded to the card you paid with.
- Tickets last a year. Award tickets are usually valid for one year from the date they're issued.
Do Asia Miles expire?
Your miles stay active as long as you earn or redeem at least once every 18 months. Each time you do, the clock resets. A transfer for a trip you then book takes care of that.
Mistakes I see most
- Forgetting the Redemption Group until the day you want to book.
- Transferring from Amex when Citi, Bilt, Wells Fargo or Capital One points would go further.
- Calling to change a booking that you could have changed online for less.
