How to transfer credit card points to Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles
Last updated October 20, 2026 · By Kyle Burrows
Miles&Smiles is Turkish Airlines' program. You can use it on Turkish Airlines and on Star Alliance partners such as United, Lufthansa, Air Canada and ANA.
Its website is the hard part. Turkish's own flights book online without much fuss, but partner awards can be harder to book there. Plan a bit more time for this one than for United or Aeroplan.
Which bank points transfer to Turkish
| Bank points | Ratio | How long it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Capital One Miles | 1:1 | Usually instant |
| Citi ThankYou | 1:1 on some cards, 1,000 to 700 on others (see below) | Often within a day, but it can take a few business days. |
| Bilt Points | 1:1 | Usually instant. Bilt says allow up to 48 hours. |
Amex, Chase and Wells Fargo don't transfer to Turkish.
Citi cards. The Citi Strata Premier, Strata Elite, Prestige and AT&T Access More transfer to Turkish at 1:1. Most other Citi cards get 1,000 to 700, so combine your points in one ThankYou account with a full-ratio card first if you have one.
Banks sometimes run transfer bonuses to Turkish. Check the transfer screen on the day you move points.
Before you move any points
- Open a free Miles&Smiles account at turkishairlines.com if you don't have one. Your member number is in your profile.
- Make the names match on your bank account, Miles&Smiles account and passport.
- Booking for someone else? Turkish lets you use your miles for family and friends. To book them online, add them to your profile as companions first. Turkish Airlines flights can then be booked online for them, even if you're not flying. Star Alliance partner awards for someone traveling without you generally can't be booked online, so plan on contacting Turkish to book those, which can take some persistence.
- Find the flight first. Search turkishairlines.com while logged in and confirm the seats and the full price before you transfer. Transfers can't be undone.
How to transfer from each bank
Capital One. Sign in, open your rewards, and choose the option to transfer your miles, then Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles. Your Capital One name has to match the Miles&Smiles account. The minimum is 1,000 miles.
Citi. Sign in at thankyou.com, find Points Transfer (it has been under More Ways to Redeem), and choose Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles. Transfers start at 1,000 points. If Citi rejects your number, try entering it with TK in front.
Bilt. In the app, go to Rewards, then Travel rewards, and tap Transfer. Choose Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles and link your number. Blue status members have a 2,000-point minimum.
Check that the miles arrived
Log in at turkishairlines.com and check the miles balance in your Miles&Smiles account. If nothing shows after the usual time, check your bank's transfer history for the number and name you used. Don't send a second transfer.
How to book the award on turkishairlines.com
- Log in at turkishairlines.com.
- For Turkish Airlines flights, start a search and choose the award ticket option. Partner flights use a separate Star Alliance award search in the Miles&Smiles area of your account.
- Enter your airports, dates, cabin and travelers.
- Pick your flights. Check the operating airline on every leg.
- Check the cabin on every leg. A business class trip can include an economy flight.
- Enter each traveler's name, date of birth and gender exactly as on the passport.
- Pay the taxes and fees by card. Turkish gives you a short window to finish ticketing, so don't leave the booking half-done.
- Save the booking reference and ticket number, then check the trip on the operating airline's website.
If a partner flight you found doesn't show up online, Turkish's call center can sometimes book it. Don't transfer extra points to keep trying the website. Turkish's automated phone payment may not accept Amex; use Visa or Mastercard.
Changes and cancellations
Turkish's award rules are fairly simple:
- You can change or cancel an award within one year of when it was issued.
- On international awards, each change or refund costs $70 per transaction.
- If you miss the flight without cancelling, a change or refund costs $170 instead.
- You can do this online or through the call center.
- Refunded miles keep their original expiry date.
Do Miles&Smiles miles expire?
Yes. Miles expire at the end of the third calendar year after you earn them, and new activity doesn't extend older miles. Turkish sells extensions, but that's a cost you can avoid by transferring only when you're ready to book.
Mistakes I see most
- Transferring before the seat shows up on turkishairlines.com or a call center agent has confirmed it.
- Not adding companions before trying to book them online.
- Missing the flight without cancelling, which more than doubles the fee.
- Not checking the ticket with the operating airline after booking a partner award.
